WHY IS GITANO NYC CLOSED & WHEN IS IT OPENING?

GITANO NYC is a Waterfront Restaurant & Lounge open seasonally from May to September. GITANO NYC was previously located in SOHO. In 2022, we moved to an even more amazing location with sweeping city views on Governors Island, just a 5-minute boat ride from downtown. DISCOVER GITANO ISLAND HERE.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR, SHOULD I BRING MY BEACH TOWEL? 

Our Waterfront Restaurant & Lounge is perfect for relaxing and escaping the city! Our dress code is always chic, day and night. So put on a ‘look,’ dress to impress, and you can leave your beach towel at home!

HOW CAN I CHANGE MY RESERVATION?

All of our reservations are managed ONLINE. If you want to change your reservation but do not see availability, please keep checking back to see if there are cancellations. You can also email nyc@gitano.com.

I HAVE MULTIPLE RESERVATIONS BOOKED. CAN WE SIT TOGETHER?

Large groups require special bookings. We cannot accommodate requests to sit multiple reservations together. For groups over 7, please submit an inquiry: EVENT REQUEST FORM.

WE HAVE ADDITIONAL GUESTS JOINING US. CAN YOU ACCOMMODATE US?

Reservations are confirmed based on the party size booked. Please update your reservation on ONLINE in advance should your party size change. If you want to change your reservation but do not see availability, please keep checking back to see if there are cancellations. If you are over 7 people in your party, please complete a GROUP BOOKING REQUEST.

HOW DOES THE FERRY WORK? HOW DO I PURCHASE TICKETS?

From Manhattan, GITANO Island is a 5-minute ferry ride from the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street, where Casa Cipriani is located. Ferries depart every 30 minutes. They run hourly on the weekend from Brooklyn Bridge Park and Red Hook. Click here for map and ferry schedules. WHEN IS THE LAST FERRY?

The last ferry departs Governors Island at 10 PM, Sunday to Thursday, and 11 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. Please visit our SHIP-TO-SHORE page for a map and ferry schedule.

ONCE I GET OFF THE FERRY, HOW DO I FIND GITANO ISLAND?

You will disembark the ferry at Governors Island Soissons Landing. As you walk off the ferry, make the first left, walk past Taco Vista, and GITANO ISLAND is a two-minute walk up on your right; you can’t miss our pink neon sign!

HOW LONG CAN I STAY AT GITANO ISLAND?

Once seated, you will have two hours to enjoy your experience. If you want to stay longer, we suggest you make an additional reservation to be seated in the lounge after you dine. To accommodate all of our guests comfortably, reservations are required for all seated areas. The standing room is based on availability at the bar.

I’M RUNNING LATE, CAN I STILL COME?

We will hold your table for 15 minutes after your reservation time. Late arrivals will be accommodated based on availability. Arrivals after 8:45 PM Sunday through Thursday and after 9:45 PM Friday and Saturday will be offered cocktails only as the kitchen will be closing. NOTE: the last ferry to the island Monday to Wednesday is 8:15 PM and Thursday to Sunday, 9:15 PM.

IS MY RESERVATION FOR SEATED DINING OR SNACKS?

A seated dining experience is offered for reservations in our Dining Decks and Main Dining Tent. Our Lounge tables offer a limited appetizer menu and a full cocktail and bottle service menu.

CAN I HAVE DRINKS AT THE BAR?

Bar space is based on availability. We typically reach capacity at the bar quickly, so seated reservations are strongly recommended.

WILL I BE CHARGED IF I CANCEL MY RESERVATION?

We charge $25 per guest for same-day cancellations and no-shows to the credit card on file.

CAN I BRING MY DOG?

Governors Island does not permit pets.  Please leave your furry friends at home.

ARE CHILDREN ALLOWED?

GITANO ISLAND is family-friendly until 8 PM.  A parent or legal guardian must accompany guests under 21.

CAN I BRING MY BOAT TO THE ISLAND?

Governors Island has limited boat slips, primarily for commercial ferries. However, we offer a private boat service to pick up from Pier 25 in Tribeca or from your dock. Contact Captain John for rates and availability at john@boatridenyc.com or 914-772-7335.

CAN I SMOKE AT GITANO ISLAND?

There is no smoking or vaping permitted on Governors Island.
